About H.O.P.E.
a free cancer support network
Help for Oncology Problems & Emotional Support
Founded in 1994 by Barbara Titanish, H.O.P.E. has assisted over 1,000 cancer
patients in 13 different states. H.O.P.E. is a 501(c)3 non-profit funded through
donations.
H.O.P.E. offers a wide range of services and programs. To view more information
about each of these programs click on the heading title of the program you are
interested in.
Education
H.O.P.E. offers lectures and workshops to help meet the many needs of the cancer
patient and their family. Guest speakers, such as nutritionists and physical therapists
help to provide the families and patients with the most up-to-date information
surrounding cancer and its treatments.
Frances Ann Landis Memorial Library
H.O.P.E. maintains a free public lending cancer library named in memory of Frances
Ann Landis. Over 450 books on cancer and related subjects are available. Also
available are 30 videos, 30 audiotapes and numerous magazines and handouts relating
to cancer education and support.
Transportation Network
H.O.P.E. provides free transportation services for cancer patients to cancer
treatments and doctor's appointments. H.O.P.E.'s volunteers provide door to door
transportation for cancer patients. This transportation network allows working
spouses to meet employment commitments knowing their loved one is receiving treatment.
Many times treatments are everyday for up to six weeks or more. It also ensures
elderly cancer patients are receiving treatment without draining their family's
resources or creating family hardships. Those cancer patients who are alone and
are without family support, through H.O.P.E. have the support network they need
to meet the challenge of treatment.
Kids Under Construction
H.O.P.E. developed this unique free support program for children who have someone
living in their home who has been diagnosed with cancer. The children are taught
coping strategies for stress, learn more about cancer, its treatment and its effect
on their loved one. Most importantly, they meet and bond with other children who
also have someone near to them ill with cancer. In addition to the counseling,
the children are also invited to several fun trips throughout the year. They are
also remembered with special gifts during the holidays.
Jeanette Cartwright Memorial Scholarship
Each spring, in memory of its co-founder Jeanette Cartwright, H.O.P.E. awards
deserving high school seniors with academic scholarships. The award is based on
financial need and a history of cancer in the student's immediate family.
Community Services
In addition to the services provided to its members, H.O.P.E. also contributes
to the community through various programs.
Fund Raising
H.O.P.E. is a non-profit organization which works to raise money for the services
it provides. Contributions to H.O.P.E. are tax deductible.
