Scott Brown Memorial
Seeds of Hope Award |
“Scott not only planted seeds for a living, he planted
seeds of hope for the future.”

The Scott Brown Memorial Seeds of Hope Award is to be presented annually to an
individual, organization or business that provides outstanding compassionate support
to cancer patients and their families.
How the Award Got its Name
On April 2, 2005, Scott Brown, Vice President and Manager of Fruit and Vegetable Operations at Brown’s Orchard
and Farm Market, lost his battle with cancer. During the summer of 2005, the Board
of Directors for H.O.P.E. voted unanimously to create the Scott Brown Memorial Seeds of Hope Award in honor of Scott and the contributions made by the Brown Family to our community.
The Award's Symbolism
With an apple wood core taken from Brown's Orchards and placed between the polished
aluminum stanchions, the award features a crystal dove in flight. The Dove, itself,
is the symbol of H.O.P.E. The outstretched wings reminds us of John Gillespie Magee's "High Flight": Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth...and danced the skies on laughter-silvered
wings...put out my hand and touched the face of God.
The 2010 Award Recipient: Lisa Fritz
The 2010 recipient of the Scott Brown Memorial Seeds of Hope Award is Lisa Fritz, Director of Medical
Education, Memorial Hospital, York, PA.
In previous years, the award has been presented to other outstanding members
of our community who have exhibited outstanding compassionate support for cancer
patients and their families, including the York Cancer Center Staff, Jane Rice,
Lyn Eib and Rev. Dr. Eddie Miller.
H.O.P.E. is an all-volunteer cancer support network, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization
funded entirely by donations. There are many, many businesses in our community
that support the efforts of H.O.P.E. One such business is Brown’s Orchards and Farm Market in Loganville, PA.
